Reducing waste and the impact on our environment is key to the Donate IT scheme.
Once computers have had their data securely destroyed, we do not simply scrap them and send them to landfill sites. Reduce, reuse and recycle is our mantra.
Blackmore Rioctech, the company behind Donate IT, is fully authorised and monitored by the Environment Agency. We adhere to the strict European Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive to ensure the maximum amount of equipment is reused, recycled or recovered to reduce any unnecessary waste being sent to landfill sites.
Wherever possible we repair and refurbish computer equipment so it can be reused by those who cannot afford new computers.
When repair or refurbishment is not an option, a computer can then be broken down so that the parts can be reused in the refurbishment of other items.
If re-use of parts is not possible, we will then recover the individual materials within the equipment. Almost all component materials, such as plastic, copper, gold, steel and aluminium, are reusable once they are segregated.
It means that almost nothing ends up going to landfill sites, which is good news for our environment.
This is how Donate IT protects your data, supports your good cause and benefits the environment.
